Main Purpose
We are seeking a candidate who possesses market knowledge, technical skills/ability to work with data, drive & ambition, displays a high level of interest in commodities & Latin America markets in general, and a strong communicator with the ability to form relationships across the region.

The Fundamentals Analyst will support Trafigura’s large and growing activities in Latin America, working within the Research Team, which involves partnering with Trafigura’s crude oil, gasoline, and distillate trading desk along with supporting strategic planning and business development efforts. In this role, the Analyst is expected to provide data-driven market analysis and trading ideas to the trading desks, including building and maintaining supply/demand balances, forecasting Latin America refinery runs, crude production and oil demand, evaluating project economics, and performing market studies for new business opportunities.

• Commercial acumen – intellectually curious & market oriented with ability to provide valuable supply/demand insights for trading opportunities and PnL generation.
• Basic understanding of market drivers, fundamentals, pricing, and oil markets / oil trading terminology.
• Resourceful – desire to connect the dots and operate in opaque markets while providing insights on internal & external data. Ability to gather information from various agencies and articulate market dynamics.
• Superior communication skills in both English & Spanish with the ability to form relationships across the region and formulate complex concepts into actionable business & trading decisions.
• Ability to work in a global team, communicate & coordinate effectively with Research Team members on workflows as well as with traders and regional management in other offices.
• Some background in mathematics/statistics/econometrics preferred with at least a basic understanding or ability to learn working with MS Excel, Tableau, Power BI, SQL, R, Plotly, Board BI and other software/languages.
• No prior professional experience necessary but 1-2 years of analytics or business development experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
• Partnering closely with the global research team on global balances, trade flows, arbs and margin models.
• Oversee the development and distribution of trading-relevant analysis.
• Routine construction and distribution of price, trade, or fundamental indicators and market views.
• Manage the automation and analysis of large fundamental or price related data.
• Calculation of key arbitrage indicators, margins and other trade information.
• Construction and maintenance of fundamental supply/demand balances across all countries in Latin America.
• Oversee the maintenance of key research databases, including turnarounds, production, ship tracking and other information.
