Front Office Data & Analytics Engineer – Gas & Power Trading

Main Purpose:

We are looking for an expert data and analytics engineer to work directly with the traders and research analysts in our European Gas and Power trading teams. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced commercial setting, playing a vital role in a real time, data and software driven trading environment.

Whilst working directly with the trading teams in Geneva, the engineer will be part of the global data science and engineering team who are responsible for the ingestion and management of market and fundamental data, sophisticated modelling techniques, data & analytics applications and solutions.

The software engineer will be technically leading and building applications and software using cutting edge cloud and software technology stacks. Building end to end software platforms and stacks in a modern and innovation fuelled business.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering solutions to complex business problems

• Building and maintaining time critical data integration pipelines (ETL/ELT)

• Building cloud-based data and analytics tools and solutions

• Design appropriate data models for a variety of internal and external datasets

• Contribute to the automation of processes on the trading desk

• Develop a deep understanding of technical projects on the desk in order to better serve commercial needs

Abilities, Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related subject

• 5+ years of Python and SQL

• Experience with relational databases

• AWS experience (E.g. S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda)

• Experience with enterprise scale data systems

• Any experience with object databases/NoSQL is a plus

• Prior Gas / Power trading experience desirable

• Outstanding communication and ability to interact with a diverse set of partners across business lines and technology

• Understanding and experience implementing software engineering best practices

• Ability to tackle problems under pressure

• Ability to effectively prioritise tasks of high importance

The Data Science and Engineering team researches, develops, and provides sophisticated analytics and data services and applications to the trading business, and other commercial operations at Trafigura.

Trafigura’s European Gas and Power teams handle both physical and derivative portfolios. The team heavily relies on data, analysis and process automation. They are looking to work with someone who can develop an understanding of their business and ultimately take ownership for a variety of technical applications and processes on the desk
